Uncounted (John/Rodney) PG

My first submission for paintedspires (there has been a lot of awesome stuff posted already--go and see, if you haven't yet!), answering the prompt "I didn't lose my mind, it was mine to give away." A small version is under the cut, with a link to the full-res (900.1200) version following.

I also say thank you to beadattitude, dogeared, and sheafrotherdon for encouragement along the way and to summertea and villainny for beta-viewing and providing very useful and much-needed comments. If this isn't as good as it should be, it isn't their fault.

Hello, neurotic, party of one? What do you MEAN, if it's not as good as it should be? You are out of your ever-loving mind, sweets, if you think this is anything but gorgeous, layered, complex and beautiful. You sum up so much, and capture so many complicated feelings in shades of gray which - I may not be an artist, but I know how hard that is to do, to capture nuance and fragility in such a muted palette. It's GORGEOUS.

This is so many kinds of wonderful I don't know where to start. To the eye it's stunning - stark and muted, black, white, gray and all the values in between - which is how I see John/Rodney. To the heart, it is straight forward, gentle yet complicated, but so full of the selfless and of love. I'd say you nailed it. It's beautiful.

I wish I had wiser, more important words to tell you how stunning this is, but I can't seem to find them. It makes me think in small, quiet terms, maybe because its own thought is so very big. What I perhaps love most about it, though, is that the greys let little things hide within them, and I get to notice something new every time I look at it again.

Oh, gorgeous. There's so much in this image, it's wonderful. The faint flowers in the upper right-hand corner, for instance; I didn't notice them on first view, and then looked again and-- oh. Beautiful.

This has a great sense of flow, too. The puzzle pieces really start the momentum from the skin-texture at the top through the unspooling equations right down to stark black Rodney at the bottom. Or, that's how it hit me, anyway. Short form: I really liked this! Lovely job!
