5 words; Misha does it *again*

Okay, so Kass gave me five words to write about, and I have written about them! If you would like, comment here and I will give you five words of your own... I think that's how this works.

Kass asked me about...

Nantucket
I still remember when I asked dogeared if it would be okay if I did a little something in her Nantucket AU, and I am very very very glad she said yes. (It was Some Verses, by the way.) As much as I love angst, I also love the idea of a space apart, where even everyday things can acquire some sort of meaning when set against the context of a very... hrm, difficult, I guess, former life.

Dog
DOG! By now everyone knows Finn the dog (who was not named after Cate's Finn; he's named after a character in Beowulf). My family has always been a dog family, and as soon as I could after leaving for school (sadly, six years), I found a black dog to call my own. He's a big goof, and I can't imagine my life without him. Also, black dogs are the best :D

Oh, and if I ever get my hands on the people who neglected him, they will be very sincerely sorry for their existence.

Fanmix
So, yeah, I just discovered these. Usually I am not big on sharing my musical preference--it's one of those weirdly personal things for me, even more personal than writing or artwork, possibly because I am vaguely good at the writing and the Photoshop, but music has consistently stymied me: I enjoy it and love it, but cannot produce it aside from singing in the car. At some point, though, I broke and put together a fanmix; it seemed like the thing to do, and I liked the challenge of finding music that could fit together to form a narrative.

McShep
Wow, I think McShep has the record for longest time I've been with a pairing. They're just... I don't know, they make sense in their own crazy way, with their prickly rivalry/friendship/looking out for each other in canon. In some ways, I think they're much more alike than they seem on the surface, in terms of their commitment not only to their work, but to making sure people stay safe and alive (even if Rodney needs prodding sometimes to do it). And outside of canon, it still boggles me--as I'm sure it does many of you--that you can plunk them down in any old place, whether it's a coffee shop or farmhouse or monastery or pirate ship or university or anywhere, and they just work. Rodney has the brain to do anything, and John is flexible enough (in oh so many ways) that they can get by in whatever universe they're in. That just keeps them fresh and new, and as long as they're together and arguing, I think they'd be happy.

Fandom
Fandom is one of those things where, working on ten years down the line, I still can't quite believe I'm in it, that I'm part of it--and not only am I part of it, but I'm constantly surprised and grateful for how much I owe it; or, for that matter, not it, but all of you. Despite the propensity of fandom as a whole for drama and argumentation (witness: current warnings fiasco), the compassion of the women and men in it has never ceased to amaze me. Just as much as the fic we write and read, the vids and art we make and watch, the characters we love it's that generosity and looking out for each other that makes us a community. Whether it's donating to a charity auction or giving a fan a place to stay (sometimes for several nights, eh A?)... fandom has good people in it, who do good as they can, and that means just as much to me as the fact that so many of you guys are awesomely talented, enthusiastic people.

Omg, I am going to cry.

In brain-breaking news of the morning: Oh my god, @misha... please stop before the last rational neuron in my head dies. It's the only thing that's keeping my hopes of doctoratedom alive:

Guess hiding from the queen will tucker a fellow out... And crawling across the desert... and teaching conversational Latin... And twitting.

Oh, Misha, "da mi basia mille, deinde centum,/dein mille altera, dein secunda centum,/deinde usque altera mille, deinde centum." *sigh*

Now, speaking of black dogs, it's Vet Time. Finn adores vet trips, because of the attention (he gets none at home) and also the peanut butter. If my OB/GYN had peanut butter to give me, maybe I would detest going a little less than I do.
