.artfic: Crash - John/Rodney (PG)

I wasn't going to post this until next week, but asdlkjf I really needed to get something out of today, you know?

.Crash
comic-sort of art by [livejournal.com profile] aesc (John/Rodney, Nantucket AU [index])

.notes: graphic novelesque story, a very short sequel to Contour, to wrap up the angstiness [livejournal.com profile] dogeared got started with "Fall."

CRASH

I crashed.

Imagine losing your genius, waking up and not knowing how stars work, why time is, or whatever.

Anyway, so I was on a mission and BANG, I got hit.

And i fell.

When I woke up I couldn't fly.

(I was sca--pissed.)

After, I used to wake up sometimes and think I can't fly anymore.

(and that... still pisses me off.)

But now I wake up and you're here.

-end-

And then, some art I did for the cover to [livejournal.com profile] cybel's podbook of [livejournal.com profile] astolat's "Tango", which you can find here.

Wow.

For something so short, this is...powerful. I love the artwork: dreamy and surreal, like the weird bursts of feeling/trying-not-to-feel in John's head.

And Rodney's silence, taking it all in, grateful that John's finally breaking open his emotional dam.

Mmm. Lovely.

Ohhhhh, I just think "Crash" is utterly gorgeous—the art is so beautiful, and I am amazed as always at all of your layers of meaning, and you get so much across in those very few words (so very spare and terse and John Sheppard), and adslfsakdfj But now I wake up and you're here, oh oh oh. *implodes quietly*

Ohhhh. I -- ohhh. That is an incredibly powerful and moving piece of art, and a beautiful addition to the Nantucket 'verse you all are building piece by heart-achey piece. John's deep pain that he can barely think about, let alone talk about -- covering it with anger -- and the comparison of being grounded to losing the ability to think, which shocks and horrifies Rodney -- and that last line, that last line... Ohhh.

Not to mention -- ha -- the art part of it, with the explosion and bright red splotch of color for the BANG which is fantastic, as is John's world turning upside-down with the "and I fell," and the sky trailing off to the sea as the story progresses, and the colors and the photos and yes.

Oh... adores. I love the way you use your writing and artistic talents together to create these absolutely breathtaking pieces. Crash is so very beautiful and that is exactly why it cuts so deep.

About the cove... "line forms here" made me laugh a lot.

Oh. I love how your art tells its own story along with the words, how it uses space and color and just... lovely. Have to go rec this now. *squishes*

I have no words to encompass how beautiful this is. Just...wow.

And {{{hugs}}} for the boys.

Oh John. *hearts* Both pieces of art are utterly gorgeous, darling.

[identity profile] amberlynne.livejournal.com 2007-11-03 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, John. *squishes him* I love the beauty and the honesty of it. And the end. *clutches heart* Fantastic, both of them. :)

[identity profile] sloganeer.livejournal.com 2007-11-03 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
and you're here.

Beautiful. And other words that don't quite mean as much as your pictures.

[identity profile] winkingstar.livejournal.com 2007-11-03 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
That is stunning. The art and the words are both incredibly beautiful, and say so much with so little. This is absolutely perfect.

[identity profile] kensieg.livejournal.com 2007-11-03 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
great! I guess Rodney's love replace what John's lost but it can comfort him.

[identity profile] auburnnothenna.livejournal.com 2007-11-03 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
It's gorgeous and amazing in its brevity, because so much is there, but I'm mostly thrilled that you used an Osprey, because it is so much a bird John would have flown and because they were (maybe still are?) buggy and crashed a lot more than they should have. I am bizarrely protective of John's piloting reputation.

These are so totally amazing. :D

[identity profile] beadattitude.livejournal.com 2007-11-03 06:39 am (UTC)(link)
Oh my goodness. Of course this is how this story should be told. Of course!! In pictures and tiny little wrung from him words of John. And how sweet/soft their face are at the end, and just...them. : :loves::

Also? Laughing out loud at the Tango pic and the shirt of hotness.

Beautiful and stark and lovely.

Oh.

Wow.

It's perfect.

(The artwork for Tango makes me grin - Rodney looks so expectant)

Oh! This is just lovely - both the art and the text. So simple and straightforward and says so much in so few words.

*HEARTS*

SO gorgeous. *pets* It makes me go all clutch and gooey, because it's sporadic and the words echo the art, the way there are red lines and the orange explosion and the fading blue, oh.
