hotel corridors; my brain is making weird noises tonight

Clearly it's making up for almost being turned into brain gel during work today because now it's being all sorts of crazy and unfocused.

Anyway, [livejournal.com profile] sheafrotherdon is stuck with morons in her hotel and [livejournal.com profile] amberlynne has had a bad night. So. Meeting a post-coital John Sheppard in one's hotel hallway would make a lot of things better, I think.

[livejournal.com profile] aesc: I bet Rodney wouldn't notice the yelling in the hotel hallways because he would be too busy being ravished by John
[livejournal.com profile] sheafrotherdon: eeeee
[livejournal.com profile] aesc: actually, they might be the rhythmic thumping sound on the other side of the wall :>
[livejournal.com profile] sheafrotherdon: hahahahah there really was rhythmic thumping earlier
[livejournal.com profile] aesc: see?
[livejournal.com profile] sheafrotherdon: I was all . . . . really? really neighbors?
[livejournal.com profile] aesc: there was probably really low, fervent moaning and if you'd listened really closely, you might have heard John whispered, all rough and broken
[livejournal.com profile] sheafrotherdon: asdfjhlakjshdlfjkhaldf
[livejournal.com profile] aesc: and then in the morning when you step outside to start your day, John wanders out of the room in search of the ice machine, scratching just above the elastic of his boxers, and he nods a greeting and gives you a slooooow, lazy grin as he wanders by
[livejournal.com profile] sheafrotherdon: ahlskdjhfkjaflasdf I would go BOOM
[livejournal.com profile] aesc: aitches go splodey
[livejournal.com profile] sheafrotherdon: he would be stubbled
[livejournal.com profile] aesc: and rumpled
[livejournal.com profile] aesc: and his shirt would be wrinkled in some places, stretched out from being tugged at in others
[livejournal.com profile] aesc: and he wouldn't have the top button of his jeans fastened
[livejournal.com profile] sheafrotherdon: and there might be a little dark mark on his throat from someone else's kisses
[livejournal.com profile] aesc: that he sees you looking at and touches briefly
[livejournal.com profile] sheafrotherdon: asldkjhfalksjdhf gah!
[livejournal.com profile] sheafrotherdon: *boom*
[livejournal.com profile] aesc: WANT
[livejournal.com profile] aesc: and there's that smile of his, the one that would be shy except for the fact he's touching *bites on his neck* and he's stubbled and rumpled and doesn't look the least bit repentant about keeping you up half the night

I want to know where that hotel is located.

[identity profile] aesc.livejournal.com 2008-05-15 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
Sadly, it is in my brain :( :(

It's a low-capacity place, so it gets crowded very easily.

Also, not to be off topic, but can I ask? (Hmm, awkward, since I'm not going to wait for permission because that's often worse than just asking. But note that I don't want to get too personal for you or anything, okay? Please don't yell at me. But I'm really curious.) Why are you "aitches"? Is it like the letter H, plural? And does it have anything to do with your username, the ae symbol that you use* or is it your first initial or something?

*I'm thinking it might be complicated because you are a linguist and I'm not so small words plz if you choose to explain.

[identity profile] aesc.livejournal.com 2008-05-15 12:55 pm (UTC)(link)
asdljkd;fkljdf oh man, I love that screencap in your icon. SO SLINKY HE IS.

Why are you "aitches"?

Hee, a couple fandoms ago, I used to write under HF, my initials (I think I've been on LJ for so long that [livejournal.com profile] aesc replaced it), and I still sign my emails with 'h.' At some point, [livejournal.com profile] sheafrotherdon picked up on that and started calling me "aitch"/"aitches" since that is more or less how you pronounce 'h' in isolation, like when you recite the alphabet :D

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_divya_/ 2008-05-15 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
For a while there, you had an icon that was of the same screenshot, didn't you? Whatever happened to it? (And god yes, I can't believe how willowy he is. Guh.)

Ahhhhh, aitch does = h! I find it very cool that [livejournal.com profile] sheafrotherdon actually made the leap and wrote out the articulation of the letter. Individual letters are one of those things that I (and probably most people) process visually as a pronounceable symbol but would never think to write down the pronunciation of in my spare time.

Whereas your symbol æ is an UNpronounceable symbol. What IS that THING? (If you're still in an explainy mood, that is.)

[identity profile] aesc.livejournal.com 2008-05-15 05:08 pm (UTC)(link)
(And god yes, I can't believe how willowy he is.

Nnnnnnf, yes yes oh my God. *collapse*

Whereas your symbol æ is an UNpronounceable symbol.

Hee! It is actually very pronounceable, if you know how :D There are two different ways, depending on the context; -æ- is sometimes used in British spellings of Greek/Latin words like encyclopædia, because originally the -e- was written as -ae- and represented what we now consider a long -e- (eeeeeee!!!) sound. The way I pronounce it, though, goes with my username; it's the Old English character called aesc (pronounced 'ash,' not 'esk'), and it represents a really flat -a-, almost like the -a- in ahh. Aside from its use in phonetic alphabets and British spellings like encyclopædia, we don't have the aesc any more today; it fell out of use along with a few other characters some time ago.

:D (And I am always in a splainy mood *g*)

I knoooooooow! ::collapses with you::

Thank you for splaining! Using small words! \o/

I am pathetically grateful that now when I see "aesc" my brain can tell me "ash" because, not having assigned any pronunciation to it, I was processing it as a recognizable symbol, not as a word or a name.

Funnily enough, one of my LJ friends and I once did voiceposts for each other where we looked at the other's userinfo and read off all the LJ names of people we had in common, just to see how differently we pronounced them. It was cool to see how our assumptions differed and how there were quite a lot like your name, where we realized that we had never thought about how to say some of them aloud because they're not common words. And it was extra cool because she's not a native English speaker (and is self-taught, omg she's so brilliant), so everything that was initials, she said them as the letters in her native language. Hee.

(Your name wasn't actually one of them since she, not being in SGA, doesn't know you, but your name would have been one of those ones where I got to it and went "uhhhh. Shit.")

[identity profile] aesc.livejournal.com 2008-05-15 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
but your name would have been one of those ones where I got to it and went "uhhhh. Shit.")

Heh heh :D It also doesn't help that the -sc- at the end isn't pronounced -s- (like the -sc- in science) or -sk- (like scare), but -sh- (ship). And, coincidentally, aesc refers to the ash tree, not what's left at the end of a cigarette :D

it's not a symbol (well, it is, in the sense that all letters and typograhical notations are symbols), it's a+e close together, as with other ligatures (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Typographical_ligature) - except, o oops, not:
The character Æ (æ, or aesc) when used in the Danish, Norwegian, or Icelandic languages, or Old English, is not a typographic ligature. It is a distinct letter—a vowel—and when alphabetised, is given a different place in the alphabetic order, rather than coming between ad and af. In modern English orthography Æ is not considered an independent letter but a spelling variant, for example: "encyclopædia" versus "encyclopaedia" or "encyclopedia".

Æ comes from Medieval Latin, where it was an optional ligature in some words, for example, "Æneas". It is still found as a variant in English and French, but the trend has recently been towards printing the A and E separately.[5] Similarly, Œ and œ, while normally printed as ligatures in French, can be replaced by component letters if technical restrictions require it.

I hope the CP works, otherwise you can read that bit by clicking the Wikipedia link. :) In HTML, you can reproduce it by typing (spaces removed)
& a e lig ;
, I would guess, since I type the same but with an o instead of the a when writing the French words that require it, like cœur (French for heart).

At some point, I'm guessing Rodney would lean out the door to yell at him, "Sheppard, what the hell is taking so long? Are you flirting with the maid for more free hair products? Get the damned ice and get back in here!"

Then he'd turn to see bystanders, blush, and pop back in his room like a startled gopher.

*happy sigh* Gotta love the boys.
