.happy post: behind the scenes for "Telectroscope?"; music; artword

Between a boiling-lobster shower, Zyrtec, a lot of coffee, and several other contributing factors, my day has improved by, oh, a billion times. Also, the new [livejournal.com profile] artword "typography" challenge is starting up here! TYPOGRAPHY, peoples! *considers*

Yesterday, [livejournal.com profile] darsynia asked me if I could make a larger version of Lie Beside the Sea art for her widescreen, and since I didn't have any way to add on 200px of right margin that would look exactly the same as the rest of the piece, all I did was widen the canvas so you can see some of the structure under the surface textures. I think it's actually quite interesting, sort of a cutaway view of the scraps that end up trimmed off in the final version.

That got me thinking of behind-the-scenes things, and coffee has enabled me to do stupid things with more energy, so I took a picture of a page in my Moleskine, which is the holder of all things [livejournal.com profile] aesc; the page is notes for a current fic-in-progress, and a couple other things. I have to admit, I love behind-the-scenes features on DVDs and DVD commentaries on fic... I love seeing how other people think, and how they experience what they're making. Also, I love it when people post pictures of their handwriting :">

These are notes for:
-SPN text icons. "I'm more like a ninja." Oh, Dean.
-two paragraphs and one sentence of "Two Yards," the bigbang fic
-plot sketches and notes for "my current attempt to tease [livejournal.com profile] amberlynne into the ground. I am of the firm belief that this is one of the million ways John and Rodney meet. You know it is, admit it. As you might be able to tell, I don't know what the title is yet, and I can't draw, and I like arrows.

([livejournal.com profile] siriaeve has just remarked how neat my handwriting is. Actually, this is, for me, very sloppy handwriting :D Most of the time it is strict, regimented, and very tiny... Part of the reason I love Moleskines so much is that the lines are perfect for writing small. Here is my not-sloppy handwriting: The quick brown John-fox jumped over the lazy Rodney.

Behind the scenes for Nevermind: I usually listen to instrumental music when I write, because lyrics can distract me, but sometimes I have a set of songs I listen to over and over while I write, and the fic for "Nevermind" only came together when I started listening to Alexi Murdoch's "Orange Sky," Dave Matthews's "Some Devil," and Grant Lee Buffalo's "Happiness" on constant repeat. I think they're awesome songs (with McKaysian and Sheppardian overtones), and you should listen to them.

For the record, after a week of not feeling terribly good about myself or the world in general, I'm determined to be happy for the rest of the day. HAPPY, DAMMIT. And to prove it, I'm using my sunny day in Palermo icon.

Your notebook looks great! I can't wait to read the finished fic.
That's an *awesome* news article (I just sent a link to a friend who's going to London) - what a nifty idea! And just a BRILLIANT idea for J & R to meet that way! (It makes me squirmy with excitement.)

And now I feel like digging out my old GLB cds.

Thank you! I really do love my Moleskine... every time I think it's been lost, my reaction is one of weeping and desperation.

And just a BRILLIANT idea for J & R to meet that way! (It makes me squirmy with excitement.)

It's SO AWESOME. I get kind of dumb thinking about it.

Oh, I love seeing the bigger piece of art, those hidden edges!! How cool!

[identity profile] aesc.livejournal.com 2008-06-01 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
*snorfles* I think it's so neat! Those are the parts I rarely think about :D

::smooch smooch smooch::

I am completely frozen on our fic, lovie. I have nooo idea why. Except for maybe being kind of bleurgy.

So glad you're feeling good. :;snorfles::

*hugs you allll up!!* do you want to brainstorm tonight, or is the bleurg strong with you?

*GIGGLEFITS*

I knew posting that CNN link would lead to TROUBLE.

[identity profile] aesc.livejournal.com 2008-06-01 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
IT IS SO PERFECT!!! I mean, imagine Rodney dragged by Madison to see the amazing Telectroscope in London, looking in and seeing a crazy-haired guy staring back at him, five hours behind in New York, slouching.

Oh how fascinating - the story sounds such fun (as does the judge in the bunny outfit). I love the expanded artwork.

[identity profile] aesc.livejournal.com 2008-06-01 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! The judge in the bunny outfit is from Supernatural :D

Dude, the Telectroscope is AWESOME. And I love how it looks sorta steampunk.

[identity profile] aesc.livejournal.com 2008-06-01 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
It's so cool looking! I wish I lived near NYC (or, you know, London *g*) so I could go look in it!

[identity profile] perspi.livejournal.com 2008-06-02 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
oh, how interesting!

I don't actually write anything by hand--I draft my stories right into my LJ, if you can believe it. My fingers are so much faster than my pen.

And YAY! "Some Devil" and "Happiness" are both on my iPod, and I second that they are great for writing. My current writing-inspirational tunes include the Tragically Hip and Regina Spektor. Heh.

[identity profile] aesc.livejournal.com 2008-06-02 02:12 pm (UTC)(link)
My fingers are so much faster than my pen.

Oh man, to have that kind of brain speed :D I can draft into IM if I am very inspired or just playing around, but otherwise (especially for plotty stuff), I have to write stuff out. This was not always the case, but along the way, something's changed.

Oh, cool! Your handwriting is cool and seeing your handwriting is cool.

I read that whole story outline, thinking to myself, "Stop reading, stop reading, you will regret it when she posts the story, you'll know too much about it, stop reading now, stop." And I didn't. Then it ends with [HOW TO GET THEM TOGETHER?] and I went "Whew!" \o/

(This reminds me, there was a handwriting meme around, wasn't there? I should post some recipes I wrote out which later got scanned. It's handwriting! It's a recipe! It's dual purpose!)

[identity profile] aesc.livejournal.com 2008-06-02 02:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Then it ends with [HOW TO GET THEM TOGETHER?] and I went "Whew!" \o/

:D I still have no idea!

It's handwriting! It's a recipe!

Yes yes! I love seeing pictures of people's handwriting. I have no idea why, but it's so cool.

[identity profile] winkingstar.livejournal.com 2008-06-02 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
The handwriting snippet is cool, the fic notes are vastly intriguing, and I am fascinated by the frayed edges of the enlarged art. :D

[identity profile] aesc.livejournal.com 2008-06-03 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Heee, thank you thank you thank you! :)

[identity profile] pollitt.livejournal.com 2008-06-05 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
I love looking into the minds (Moleskines?) of other writers. I haven't had a notebook wherein I write everything in a while--they're separated into different notebooks, alas. I must find one to hold them all (how very Tolkien.) I do, however, have the pen that writes the notes. That I have.

Your sloppy and neat handwriting is lovely! I am a bit in love with looking at people's handwriting.

I hope the Happy has continued. *sends you happy*
