again: no, seriously, WTF?

I don't like being woken up at 4:10am as it is, but I really really really hate being woken up at 4:10am by some maniac firing a gun on the street right outside my window.

At first I thought it was a car backfiring, but cars don't backfire six times, one right after the other, or shout "Yeah, bitch!" at the end. Then, after roommate and I got up to call the police, I wondered if it's a sign of American desensitization to violence that I was mostly irritated about being woken up, instead of freaked out/upset at the fact that there was some seriously unstable person with a deadly weapon maybe fifty feet away from me (and that we were separated by the flimsy barrier of house siding, insulation, and drywall). At any rate, the police came by and found no one dead or bleeding in the street, just two sleepy and disoriented graduate students and two hysterical dogs.

The Second Amendment and some of its interpreters have a lot to answer for.

Will hopefully have something to post that is not whiny, bitchy, or about depression soon. It might even be SGA related. It might even have porn.

Eeek. See, this is why I'm glad I live in Australia, even if it does suck in other ways - the domestic that took place last night at 2 am in the driveway of the block of units next to ours didn't involve firearms. Just, you know, jealous ranting and quite a lot of door-slamming.

We get that sort of thing too (and have gotten it, omg), but I wonder how different it would be to know that the likelihood of guns being brought into the dispute is minimal instead of quite likely.
