Yes, post of random!
The next challenge is up at
artword, and is ASTRONOMY, inspired by NASA's photos of the day. In the manner of cosmic matter into a black hole, I have been sucked into the archives and have spent a lot of time wishing for a spaceship, and remembering when I wanted to be an astronomer.
Living in central Florida as I did, NASA was a big part of my life--lots of field trips, and shuttles or rockets going up were always news. My first clear memory of joy or tragedy beyond my family was when Challenger exploded in 1986; I can very clearly recall standing in the kitchen, watching the shuttle break apart on our tiny TV, and realizing this was something way past my previous experiences. My dream for the future is to live in a place with no light pollution, and a telescope. (Which explains a bit of why I wrote this for
mcsmooch.)
Speaking of writing, as
dogeared knows quite well, I'm working on the Epic Gay Seafaring Love of Viking!John and Monk!Rodney. It clocks in at 27,000 words, and with the entire plot roughed out, I'm on pace to finish it in a few weeks/a month. A couple parts are completely finished already. I've never posted something this ginormous before (BigBang doesn't count), so I was wondering how people like really long fic posted. Hence, POLL:

Also, I just took this and I love my silly black dog:

dogeared points out that Finn is asking "Whut r u doin?"

(I really dislike it when people post finished stories in installments. With a WIP I don't mind - hey, more story sooner, I'm not going to complain! But if it's finished, handing it out piecemeal seems ... manipulative to me. Possibly because I like to check out the ending of a story first, and this deprives me of that. *g* Obviously I could just wait until it's finished posting, but who has that kind of patience? Not me ...)

I've seen long fics posted in all sorts of ways... I'm hesitant to post viking!boys as a WIP (although technically I've already done that, with a couple of snippets up), just because I've developed a dislike of WIP-posting over the past couple of years :D There have been a couple of long fics posted recently that have been posted in part(s)-per-day, so people can sit down and read manageable chunks, or just save for the end or whatever, but I've never really thought about how people might prefer to have long fics posted--I'm a "I'll take it as I can get it" sort of person :D

Ahem. Sorry. You may have noticed this is a topic I feel strongly about. ;-)
(As for the WIP issue - a lot of people don't like to read WIPs, so I understand why someone wouldn't want to post a story that way. I've never minded myself - unfinished stories don't bother me, it's only the withholding of an already extant ending that gets to me. It's like - until it's finished, the ending hasn't happened, so I don't need to know it, but once it has ... Yes, I know I'm weird. *g*)

Also, silly dog with luminous eyes! So cute! :-D
And the APOD archive is fantastic - I've been a long time visitor and I was so happy to see the challenge involved it. It's exciting to wait for the fic and the art!

I like when people post a link to an offline file with the story all on one page, and that way there is still a post on Lj we can easily comment to and experience toe community of reading. I think that when people do like Erin did recently, and post it to LJ in interlinked chunks AND add a link in the last post to the outside file, that's nice too: some people can read it all on LJ, which I guess is good if that's what they like, AND there are multiple places in the story where one can stop and feedback if one feels like it.. plus the handiness of one big file off site. (I have a feeling I am not explaining this clearly but I'm sure you know what I mean)
Deep down though, I'll take it anyway I can get it! I have grabby handses for fic. :D

As for where, I have a slight preference for LJ, but as long as I can access it and it isn't a webpage with eye-straining colours/font/text size etc. I'm not too fussed.
Looking forward to reading this, anyway, however you decide to post it.

Yay, thank you for the input! I think I may have to post on LJ, because I've found that I have a hard time reading fics the way eFiction (which I have on my site that I never update because I'm too lazy even to upload), but maybe I could make myself re-remember to code something in a readable format between now and when the story gets posted.
Man, I'm too lazy to upload things to an eFiction PHP archive. That's sad.
*is sad*

Didn't you write little snippets of Viking!John and Monk!Rodney previously? Perhaps it wasn't you, but no matter - I can't wait!
I personally don't like to read WIP, and avoid them if I can. There's always the chance that inspiration gets lost or other circumstances come about and the fic doesn't get finished. Nothing's worse than reading an outstanding fic that was never completed.

I really love the APOD project... I sometimes go a while without checking in on it, so I have a lot of lovely pictures to browse through when I do go back.

My dog has a few favorite positions, and one of them is the top of the stairs. I think she needs to get as many lines of sight at once as she can.

BUT DOGGY! I am so obsessed with doggies lately that I've even looked into volunteering at the RSPCA or something. Unfortunately locations would require a car and also I could end up doing something shitty like filing. BOO.
He looks SO CUTSIE. Just peering round the corner. I feel like it should have some kind of "I CAN HAZ..." caption. But I can't think of one right now. ALSO FAIL.

It would probably be I CAN HAZ BISCUIT??? Because I took this at night, and he gets a treat before bedtime... He heard me when I got up from my desk to get something, and he hustled to the top of the stairs to see if possibly I was going in the direction of the biscuit bag ;)
