Woot, weekend trifecta! I met three of my goals this weekend: to write fic, to get in a decent run, and to make awesome stuff in the kitchen. Here is the fic:

.sga: The night before book club (John/Rodney) PG13
A snippet from an AU dogeared and I tossed around a while ago, wherein Rodney joins a book group in order to get some action. (It was an act of desperation, we think.) You can find it here, with some other awesome stuff from Cate's sammich/beds/making out fest.

.spn: Run on (Dean/Castiel) NC17
Another AU snippet, something else that Melface and I thought about. In it, Castiel and Dean are on the run from evil corporate-types, and all that adrenaline and tension has to go somewhere, finally. Here is where it goes, specifically. Written for Porn Battle VIII.

aesc: (uriel. he's badass.)
Oooof, big writing night! Now to turn some of this mojo into writing, say, my dissertation *sigh*

A day of salt and newspapers John/Rodney (R) | ~2,960 words
The second fic in the selmelier!Rodney AU (which now has its own tag!), in which John strives to instruct Rodney in the virtues of good customer service. Written for [community profile] mcsmooch

Blooded with the spirit of a god Dean/Castiel (PG13) | 690 words
A commentfic for a [community profile] deancastiel flash-comment challenge, using the prompt words "ichor, devilish [which I left out, heh], outmatch, adequate." Castiel fears he's not enough and gives Dean one more weapon to use to keep Sam safe.

In other news: Death Cab for Cutie's "Brothers in a Hotel Bed" and "Stable Song" are kind of destroying me. We had the first tulip of spring in our garden today, bright red and very happy to bloom. As the tree outside my study window indicates, the trees are lasciviously and promiscuously fornicating now.

What this means: The amount of sinus- and allergy-related whining on this LJ is probably going to increase. You have been warned.
aesc: (narwhal!)
I decided to sign up for Sweet Charity this time around, which is a good thing, because alas this is the last time :( (See the comm for details). This is also the first time I think I've done a charity-driven event before, so I'm a bit nervous... But hey, it's for good, yes? I've decided to offer both fic and art, as separate auctions, and here are teh detailz:
FIC
I will write for you, the winning bidder, a fic of the length of your choosing (up to 20,000 words if you want it by July 1, but my mental and plotting capacities do not go much beyond 20,000 anyway). As my tags indicate, I will write in SGA, SPN, or Merlin, in canon or AU as you desire, and will gladly write crossovers if I know the other fandom you want to write in. I am most comfortable with slash and some het, or gen as follows:

SGA: John/Rodney, Teyla/Ronon, gen
SPN: Dean/Castiel; Dean, Sam, Castiel gen
Merlin: Arthur/Merlin, Gwen/Morgana, gen

ART
I will produce for you, the winning bidder, a certain number of pieces of fannish graphic art, depending on the agreement we come to. Most of my art these days is large: wallpapers, standalone art, headers, and short graphic-based fics (up to 4-5 pages), mostly, although I can do icons as well. So, our final agreement may be, say, five icons and a header, or a pair of walls, or one graphic-based fic.

My graphical fandoms and inspirations these days are SGA, SPN, and Merlin, especially John and Rodney, Dean, Castiel, and Merlin/Arthur-centric stuff. My tools are Photoshop CS4 and my awesome drawing tablet.

For examples of my art, check out my art tags at my LJ (http://aesc.livejournal.com/tag/) or else my graphics community, http://discolore.livejournal.com for icons and resources.

Unless I do art for bigbangs this year, I'm not otherwise participating in anything over the summer, and I'll need something to keep me busy and out of trouble. And all of YOU out there should totally sign up; let's have this last SC go out with awesomeness \o/

Also, ficlet link! The maybe-start of an SPN noir AU, featuring P.I.!Castiel and femme fatale (stress on the fatale) Dean: untitled noirish bit of something.

Now that it is finally sunny, I am going to take my black dog to the park.

Probably this is [livejournal.com profile] insight2's fault, but while I was brushing my teeth last night it occurred to me that it would be interesting (one word for it) to develop an angelic language, now that Skanr has been my practice run for language construction. What I've been thinking of is a language that is Romance-like in the sense that angels use different forms of the copulative (to be) for the created world and the divine, to express the distinction they'd probably make between essence versus state. Or would they just see the entire world as a collection of things in a state of being or becoming or changing? And how would the near-infinite think about the bounded and contained, anyway? *ponders these things*

In similar SPN news, I wrote one more drabble, In terra aliena (In a Strange Land) for the [livejournal.com profile] deancastiel drabble challenge.

SUNDAY DRABBLEVENTURES

By executive order, I have decided that on a semiregular basis (maybe every other Sunday, or however often I feel like it), I will contribute to weekend sloth and work avoidance by writing drabbles on request. When requests are open, I will note which fandoms I'm writing in; all you need to do is name your fandom, character/pairing, and prompt, and I will write 100 words of something. This post will be the prompt and response post, for purposes of consolidation.

.drabble prompts: Leave me a fandom/character/pairing and a prompt (SGA, SPN, Bones, and I guess I will take Merlin*) and I will see what I can do.

4.26 DRABBLEVENTURES NOW OPEN

In unrelated news, Iron & Wine's The Shepherd's Dog is completely awesome and I have been listening to it obsessively.

* = I like Morgana a lot and wish something heavy would land on Uther. And I like how Arthur is kind of a jerk, but basically a decent guy. Also, I am deeply amused and, dare I say it, somewhat gratified, by the fact that the incantation languages involve Old English. A lot of this is because the Anglo-Saxons really did not like teh magics.

*le sigh* Sunday is over, alas! Drabbles closed for now.
aesc: (mr. nigel murray!)
<--check out Mr. Nigel Murray there. He is WISE, my friends, wise like a crazy owl. In fact, he totally knew the answers to the five things meme, as posed by [livejournal.com profile] insight2.

Finn, Uriel, language, fleeces, and Moleskines! )

In fannish news: I wroted a drabble for the [livejournal.com profile] deancastiel drabble fire challenge, Secretum secretorum (The Secret of Secrets), featuring Dean, Castiel, and the Impala ♥

Also, I will confess to watching a few episodes of Merlin. So far, I am prepared to grant that Merlin is adorable (aside from the hair, oh my god please change the hair), Gwen is lovely, and Arthur needs a swift kick in the pants. Also, it is not as boring as 99% of the Arthurian stuff I've been exposed to in my life... Probably this is a bad thing for a medievalist to admit, but most Arthurian literature puts me to sleep. The majority of the Morte Darthur makes me catatonic, except for the part where Lancelot gropes the open, bleeding wounds of an injured knight. Heh heh heh, wound-groping.

In other news: To quote the BBC Pride and Prejudice, "Damn tedious waste of an evening!" I had to go out for drinks tonight, which is usually not bad, but this time it was because I didn't know anyone outside of two people, and all the people I didn't know happened to be Law and Business Students. We had nothing to talk about and very little in common. ("So... you want to research medieval literature, huh?" "You're trying to get a job as an investment banker in this economy, huh?") So, I had a glass of wine, made one of the people I knew very sorry he had asked me to come, and left.

Also, all the cretins were out on the road tonight. WTF is up with that? I arrived at the bar red-faced with shouting unheard threats, advice, and curses at the morons I encountered on the way.

[fic] Martha Stewart's Private Hell (PG13) John/Rodney | ~1400
Part of Roommates!verse, which means, of course, that the boys are only semi-domesticated. Still, I wrote this for [livejournal.com profile] casa_mcshep, which already has a ton of wonderful domestic-type things! Martha Stewart's Private Hell.

[art] Crossroads Blues/Possession over Judgment Day
I was working on this for something else, but the larger piece wouldn't come together, and seeing as I'd already invested time and effort in it, I thought I might as well try to get a header out of the thing. There's a completely textful version, as well as a textless, and two with textual permutations. I love Dean and the blues, what can I say?

.32-20 blues )

ALSO: According to MSNBC, The Smithsonian wants to acquire Aretha Franklin's inauguration hat. Well, all I have to say is that they're gonna have to fight an Air Force pilot, astrophysicist, angel of the Lord, and Dean Fucking Winchester for it. DEATHMATCH, people. DEATHMATCH.

In other news: asd;lkjdflkj Steelers! I have no deep loyalty to them (or the Cardinals), but I kind of have a soft spot for Pittsburgh because I had a wonderful great-aunt and uncle who lived there, and the place has fond memories. Also, I think "Terrible Towel" sounds hysterical. So, yay Steelers!
aesc: (girl assistant)
First, thank you to all those who commented on and enabled my weirdness re: Aretha Franklin's hat on Friday. ILU FANDOM.

Second, I wrote a couple of wee ficlets today!

Supernatural (PG13) John/Rodney | ~830 words
[AU, set after "The Eye"] Written for [livejournal.com profile] mcsmooch. John is a _____ and Rodney is a ______. (And this, as they say, is a fic of crack.) A bit out of my usual way: I DID IT EVEN THOUGH AMBER THOUGHT I WOULDN'T HA HA HA!

What Is Next to Godliness (NC17) Dean/Castiel | ~500 words
Written for PORN BATTLE VII over at [livejournal.com profile] oxoniensis. I picked "laundry," because for some reason I have a fondness for laundromat/laundry room sex0rs. Don't ask me why: Angels have victory sex too?

In other news: I've realized that all my story ideas start coming right when I really need to get back to work. Unfair.

.eta: One of the most adorable ficlets I have ever ever ever read, oh my god ♥♥♥ [livejournal.com profile] dogeared is made of wonderful things!
aesc: (yes and yes)
Some very nice things to post on this Sunday night! \o/

1.) Swim shorts, barefooted, wild-haired (John/Rodney). Written for [livejournal.com profile] mcsmooch, but really for [livejournal.com profile] tardis80, whose beautiful, lovely postcards (like this one, which was the inspiration) cheered me up so much during the wretchedness of last fall and winter ♥♥♥ It's boys on the pier on a summer day, being lazy after saving the world.

2.) Thank you so very much to everyone who nominated some of my stuff for the McShep Awards! I'm completely thrilled that people come by here and look at things, much less enjoy them and remember them, and really, it's kind of awesomely cool for me. And once the nominations go up, I can guarantee you will have lots of great things to read and look at and be amazed by.

3.) I would just like to say that I really REALLY REALLY REALLY love this cap from "Vegas." Seriously. I have a deep and abiding love for profile shots of John where he's looking up; indeed, one might say it verges on "disturbing obsession." His throat, oh my god. *flails a bit* I put this behind a cut because I can't bring myself to make it smaller than 600px:

mmmmmmph )

4.) SPN 4.07 spoilery remarks, cut just in case and also, yay Castiel! )

Tomorrow: Shall be posted this SGA/SPN crossover fic that I finished some time last year but sort of repressed in my memory. I remember I wrote it terribly fast, and when I write something long and very quickly I tend to be very unhappy with it. So, I let it sit... and sit... and sit... and excavated it the other day. Now it's been edited, canon adjusted for my own benefit, and possibly ready to go.
aesc: (girl assistant)
It just occurred to me that one of the things on my Backlog of Stuff is linking to things what I wrote and arted over the past two months. So, here they are:

[fic] Faith Healing (John/Rodney PG13) ~11,800 words
An AU for [livejournal.com profile] temaris's [livejournal.com profile] sga_santa present! I completely blanked on a halfway decent title for it, which was idiotic, because the story had two sources I knew (Moby's remix of "Run On" and The Band's "WS Walcott Medicine Show") and one which I had completely forgotten until I saw it the other day (Supernatural ep "Faith," which features faith healing in a muddy field in southern Nebraska.)

Anyway, the story gave me hell but it's posted and here it is, with safe planets and Asgard and the Trust and Rodney's horrible, horrible roadtrip with Lorne, and, of course, John: Faith Healing.

[art] Arbor (Teyla, gen PG13)
Art done for [livejournal.com profile] siriaeve's Teyla!fic as part of [livejournal.com profile] artword's Astronomy challenge. She does write an awesome Teyla, you guys, srsly. There's team, too, but a lot of team through her eyes: Arbor.

The art is a cover, and sort of an experiment in how to do coloring with brushes and not have a decent drawing tablet. I desaturated the image of Teyla and recolored it in places using splotchy brushes of various persuasions... It took a bit, but it came out okay, I think.
aesc: (astro!John)
Yes, post of random!

The next challenge is up at [livejournal.com profile] artword, and is ASTRONOMY, inspired by NASA's photos of the day. In the manner of cosmic matter into a black hole, I have been sucked into the archives and have spent a lot of time wishing for a spaceship, and remembering when I wanted to be an astronomer.

Living in central Florida as I did, NASA was a big part of my life--lots of field trips, and shuttles or rockets going up were always news. My first clear memory of joy or tragedy beyond my family was when Challenger exploded in 1986; I can very clearly recall standing in the kitchen, watching the shuttle break apart on our tiny TV, and realizing this was something way past my previous experiences. My dream for the future is to live in a place with no light pollution, and a telescope. (Which explains a bit of why I wrote this for [livejournal.com profile] mcsmooch.)

Speaking of writing, cut for viking!boys and poll! )

Also, I just took this and I love my silly black dog:

[livejournal.com profile] dogeared points out that Finn is asking "Whut r u doin?"
aesc: (pretending I'm happy)
Hurray, I finally surmounted my previously insurmountable lameitude and wrote something! Written for and posted at [livejournal.com profile] sga_flashfic for the Comfort Challenge:

.A Story Involving Blankets (~1,660)
Rodney doesn't say the obvious, for once, which is that agrop were native to Sateda, and that probably only Satedans would appreciate a comforter stuffed with the feathers of a poisonous bird.

That's right, the agrop gets a mention! See the agrop! tag for further details.

In other news: I start yoga tomorrow! And I finally located my bicycle pump, so I can start riding to school again and not relying on roommates who do not turn on their damned phone to coordinate driving schedules.

Also, [livejournal.com profile] sgabigbang is starting up its review/DVD commentary/promotion event for September. I thought about posting, except... what the hell would I have to say about my stuff? :/ And, you know, who would read it? If anything, I'm more inclined to talk about the art for [livejournal.com profile] cathalin than my own story, which I still haven't assimilated in my own head.
aesc: (Teyla rocks)
Busy day. Read some stuff, picked up my art prompt for [livejournal.com profile] sgabigbang, spent most of the day with the low-level urge to smack people, and finally finished my side of the [livejournal.com profile] artword typography challenge:

.Dither by [livejournal.com profile] sheafrotherdon and me (PG13ish)
Rodney tries to write a letter. It doesn't go so well.

Maybe I should just go with origami porn.
aesc: (Default)
.More Temperate (John/Rodney) ~3,690
Written for [livejournal.com profile] mcsmooch. Part of the Restoration Hardware AU, and takes place about eight months or so after Office Hours.

"Maybe you should go naked under your robes," John says with a brief, sweet leer.

.icon previews! NEXT WEEK NEXT WEEK FINALLY OH MY GOD. There will also be wallpapers and such as well.

Also, I now have a tiny, sleek blue portable hard drive that will convey my 59GBs of graphics and video files (I have fifty thousand image files, people) to NH with me in a couple weeks. I've decided to call it Meredith, because of the blue.

(Oh oh oh, and happiest of happy belated/on time/advance birthdays to [livejournal.com profile] ladycat777, [livejournal.com profile] the_drifter, and [livejournal.com profile] tropes!)
aesc: (grant)
.Nevermind (John/Rodney PG) ~1,500 + art
I was lucky enough to write for the very awesome and talented [livejournal.com profile] newkidfan for this month's Reversed challenge at [livejournal.com profile] artword, and believe me when I tell you her art will blow you away. And thank you thank you to [livejournal.com profile] dogeared for making sure the writing is not entirely nonsensical *smooch* (And for those of you who are interested in [livejournal.com profile] artword but didn't have a chance/weren't able to participate last month, the new challenge starts soon! Look for it!)

Because the piece is very image-heavy, the link takes you to a preload page ♥

The last time he lost someone behind enemy lines, John had a single helicopter to get him back. This time he has a warship.

.eta: For a few billion reasons (pollen, allergies to said pollen, having to work in the garden anyway otherwise we will be growing prize weeds), I'm having a terrible, "wow do I feel like shit in more ways than one" morning. And I haven't read it yet because I want to wait for the Zyrtec to work (oh please dear god work), but I know THIS is going to be awesome and will help me feel better. It is [livejournal.com profile] beeej's Bar Harbour AU, and I have been praying for [livejournal.com profile] wojelah or someone to write it because OMG OMG OMG IT MAKES ME JOYFUL.
aesc: (smooch!)
.Lie Beside the Sea
For [livejournal.com profile] artword Challenge 10: Reversed and put together to get [livejournal.com profile] dogeared to write her absolutely lovely Lie Beside the Sea. Please please please go read it and tell her how awesome it is! When I read it this morning, I was so happy I can't even tell you, and I guarantee it will make you smile.

1200.900px version linked! Hugest thanks to [livejournal.com profile] oxoniensis for the graphics space on her site ♥

he has an alien beach and a little havand-va-wood bungalow and Rodney. )
aesc: (grant)
For reasons of economy:

1: Written for [livejournal.com profile] mcsmooch: Office Hours (John/Rodney, Restoration Hardware AU), in which we learn that Rodney's second base is comprehensively stolen.

2: THEY ARE GIRL SCOUT COOKIES. Our fandom brings the crack, and it is good.

3: Because some of you seemed to like it, more Beokitteh, the next twenty-eight lines or so, cut for length.

Thar wuz big boat on teh beachez (not failboat)/all icy n stuffs, pimped out liek woah! )

In other news: I don't know why I haven't done this before now, but I downloaded Trillian, so I'm reliably aesc36 on MSN, Yahoo, and AIM.
aesc: (Default)
For [livejournal.com profile] sheafrotherdon's Just Propose Already!! festival: The One Where Teyla and Ronon Make Them Do It, in which Teyla and Ronon have decided that this foolishness has gone on long enough and take matters into their own hands.*

Some time post-"Quarantine," probably sooner rather than later.

In other news: I AM GOING HOME TOMORROW I AM GOING HOME TOMORROW HURRAY HURRAY HURRAY.^

*=OMG I wrote proposal!fic. Yet another thing I thought I would never ever do in any fandom ever.
^=Of course, this is assuming I can get to NH, seeing as it's supposed to snow. Pray for me.
aesc: (yes and yes)
.The Hmmmmpf of Rodney McKay
by [livejournal.com profile] dogeared, [livejournal.com profile] sheafrotherdon, [livejournal.com profile] siriaeve, and me.

Yes, all four of us were bored and porny on Sunday morning, and this is what happened! Rodney is determined to be hostile and cranky when he wakes up and John takes it as a challenge.

to the fic!

Now back to doing nothing :>
