two sudden thoughts: one good, one strange

Good: I woke up at 3am, one of those EU-FUCKING-REKA! moments, with the answer to this chronic, nagging question that's been in my mind about some work I've been doing lately. It was so awesome,* I had to run downstairs and write it out, and then I was awake and kind of pleased and happy for about twenty minutes. Then it wore off and I went back to bed.

(* = When I say "awesome," I mean "awesome to almost no one but me.")

Strange: Yesterday I watched the preview for last night's Nip/Tuck (here, NSFW) on which Misha Collins guest-stars as a v. bendy and v. v. v. well-endowed yoga instructor. Needless to say, this does not quite square with my "Misha = Castiel" worldview. (TYRANNOSAURUS! OMFG.) So this morning, I was trying to ignore chronic nagging of another sort--Finn poking at me to wake up and feed him--and I had this idea for an SPN AU where Dean owns Winchester Extermination Co., a pest-control service and the family business. He's always loved his work--those vermin need their little vermin asses obliterated--but lately he's been feeling tense and cranky and trapped in the job. Sam ropes him into seeing Dr. Singer, who is probably the least sympathetic and coddling therapist on the planet, who recommends that Dean stop whining, unclench, and take yoga to relax.

Dean looks through the phonebook, but practically every place he sees has this idiotic mystical New Agey name. Finally, down at the bottom, he finds a listing for 'Yoga' and a phone number and address for a place in a run-of-the-mill strip mall, right down the way from a pie shop.

Two guesses as to who the yoga instructor is, people. And one more about the likelihood of bendy, improbably flexible sex0rs.

In Bones news: I finished S1 last night, and today I am going to start S2. I understand that Dr. Goodman is gone, which upsets me more than I can say, because I love Goodman, he's so awesome. Also, he terrifies Hodgins, and like Rodney, he is petty and vindictive and will edit your face if he has to.

Still, Booth and Brennan kind of make me flail a bit. That's all I'm sayin'.

Oh oh, and some icons FINALLY! The whole collection should be up at the end of the month, I hope.

.eta: Also, when did "evidence" become a verb??? As in, "evidencing this reading of X results in blah blah blah." VERBING WEIRDS LANGUAGE, PEOPLE.

Cam - who replaces Goodman - took me a few episodes to warm up to but I did end up loving her and uh, sometimes forget all about Goodman. =/ WHICH IS SAD. Because as you said, Goodman was AWESOME.

Yes, this! *points up*

[identity profile] aesc.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, the other Bones-type people I've talked to like her, so that is reassuring, but still... I LOVE GOODMAN AND I WANT HIM BAAAAAACK. It's just so awesome how Hodgins, despite being all "Science and rational empiricism is infinitely superior to humanistic conjecture" cowers when Goodman gets his smite on.

[identity profile] unamaga.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 03:59 pm (UTC)(link)
fAWGjiawjfklwg oh my god, I would read that fic! Extra points for making Castiel say, "I can't stop sucking it." Because that is just. Hilarity.

[identity profile] aesc.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I came very close to falling out of my chair when he said that. And now I think I will never be able to do Plow without snickering madly to myself :D

[identity profile] elli.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 04:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh..I cannot wait to snag some of that collection. Bones!!! wheee!!!!

[identity profile] aesc.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Finally the icons are starting to come together!! I deleted about half the SGA and SPN ones I'd done, and some of the Bones, and am pretty much starting the collecion from halfway to scratch... I've just completely forgotten what it's like making icons, I guess :D

*asplodes* ALSO PIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

How is it you only just now found out about Bones? HEINOUS.

[identity profile] aesc.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 04:21 pm (UTC)(link)
*asplodes* ALSO PIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Dean views that as his reward for suffering through all that ridiculous stretching and Zen stuff, and Castiel looking at him with that stupid inscrutable expression :D

HEINOUS.

I KNOW, I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT'S WRONG WITH ME. Seriously, I am kicking myself! Why did I not start watching this sooner???

[identity profile] insight2.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)

*wants this fic like WHOA*

Oh man, you're starting Season 2? Season 2 is LOVE- I bet you will like 'Aliens in a Spaceship' *siggggggggggggggghs*

Also I don't remember which ep that this happened in but Booth basically says that girls are The Best in this really fond, soft voice whilst watching Bones from afar and I went <33333 because that sort of thing really doesn't get said enough in RL.

And there is a behind-the-scenes clip from S3 that you have to see- uh, but it is DEFINITELY SPOILERY in a MAJORLY SPOILERY WAY so maybe bookmark it (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OLMJtmFfxf8) for after you've seen S3.

[identity profile] ionaonie.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Dr Goodman leaves?

Oh no!

I like him. I always smile when he comes on screen because, well, he's Dr Goodman.

[identity profile] aesc.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I guess so! I was reading the S2 DVD covers and they say Goodman has left the building. WHICH SUUUUCKS. Goodman forever!

[identity profile] perspi.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
BOOOOONES!!

I love Bones. You will ADORE the eps with Stephen Fry as Dr. Gordon--he has EXCELLENT chemistry with Booth. The series got rather weak in the middle, IMO, but this current season has been quite good. :)

[identity profile] aesc.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Yayyyy, I really wish I could set everything aside and just watch Bones until I'm all caught up with it, but I can't, and I find that incredibly unfair!

[identity profile] kalikahuntress.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Please write this, pretty please with a cherry on top. **makes puppy eyes, or rather Castiel does.**

[identity profile] aesc.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I have put it in my Moleskine, which basically means that I will certainly remember, and probably think more about it. Not a guarantee that it will be written, but going in the Moleskine is a pretty big step :D

[identity profile] mardia.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
You are going to LOVE Season Two of Bones, this I can guarantee. Even though I loved Dr. Goodman too, the season--it is even BETTER than Season One, which I do not say lightly. Just WAIT until you get to Aliens in a Spaceship.

And okay, you HAVE to write that fic.

[identity profile] aesc.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Hurray!! I can't wait until I get home tonight so I can watch \o/

Oh, and I have put the fic in the Notebook, which doesn't guarantee that I will write it, but guarantees I will remember it :D

Those icons amaze me with their beauty. *bows down*

[identity profile] aesc.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
*hugs!* Thank you!! I'm quite happy with these, which is pleasing to me :D

[identity profile] madeline871.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
this does not quite square with my "Misha = Castiel" worldview

He delivers his lines with the same tone and diction as he does on SPN, and once he'd presented his story to the plastic surgeons I couldn't help but blush and squeal Castiel!

[identity profile] aesc.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)

Heee! Yes, that is pretty much what I did... He has a very matter-of-fact presentation in both personae, like "here's what the situation is, deal with it," that is vaguely menacing when he is supposed to be an angel but that absolutely cracked my shit up when he's the in-touch-with-your-body yoga instructor asking after penis reduction surgery. The brain, it cannot reconcile these things :D

Dude. That is, like, incredibly INCREDIBLY brilliant. Me wants!

[identity profile] aesc.livejournal.com 2009-02-12 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
It is in the notebook, and I actually thought a bit about it on the drive home today, when I really could not think about work anymore, so there may be something! :D

::puts on pseudo-professorial hat::

Apparently "evidence" has been a verb for quite a while. My copy of Chambers (the last "20th Century" edition) has an entry for it as a transitive verb, "to render evident".

[identity profile] aesc.livejournal.com 2009-02-12 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
This is interesting! I have no recollection of having heard it used as a verb, transitive or otherwise, until today, when I saw it used twice. Hm.

[identity profile] anatsuno.livejournal.com 2009-02-12 02:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Why not use 'prove'? I thought in most circumstances when not dealing with formal logic/math/philosophy, proving was done by bringing evidence to the table. And if that's not the meaning you want, then you can say 'render obvious', make visible, etc.

Verbing DOES weird language. Dammit, my icon for that is inactive now! *goes to fix the issue*

[identity profile] aesc.livejournal.com 2009-02-12 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh, I actually wrote "is this a verb?" above both uses of the word in the paper I was reading... [livejournal.com profile] ci5rod says "evidence" has been verbed since the late 20th century, which I did not know, but it still sounds awkward to me.

what in Ganesh's good name is on your icon? A squid God? playing flute? Wearing a bulbous crown? Or a rabbit eating a fish? I cannot tell!!!

Ha ha, it is one of the monsters from Bosch's Garden of Earthly Delights (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f2/GardenED_edit1.jpg). He is in the panel on the left, nomming on a human soul :D

heee, that's one of my favorite painters! But I don't have a good size repro of that one.

I once envisioned sculpting action figures out of his weird creatures (though I am a lousy sculptor. I just thought it would be neat AND might sell), and of course I just sat on the idea a few years... Then last august at the Tate Gallery's museum shop I saw that someone's done it! whee. :D

[identity profile] beadattitude.livejournal.com 2009-02-16 02:21 pm (UTC)(link)
he is petty and vindictive and will edit your face if he has to.
And he has a voice like rolling thunder.

I like your cracked out story idea. ::draws patterns on floor with toe:: I'm just sayin'.

[identity profile] aesc.livejournal.com 2009-02-21 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
My brain kind of likes it too, it won't stop thinking about it XD

[identity profile] pollitt.livejournal.com 2009-02-21 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
I am OMG so behind on LJ. I so cannot wait to see the Bones collection. That show is one of my loves that I don't post about all the time, but the DVDs are almost always in my player to watch and LOVE.

Booth and Bones make me so squishy.

And as others have said, you will LOVE S2. There is much to love in the second season. The chemistry and relationships in the cast grow and mature. It's my favorite season.

[identity profile] aesc.livejournal.com 2009-02-21 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
I think Bones has definitely made it into more or less regular rotation on my DVD player. I just... LOVE!

And I have been through S2 (you really are behind *g*), and LOOOOOOVE. My heart clenches whenever I watch the end of "Aliens in a Space Ship" ♥

[identity profile] pollitt.livejournal.com 2009-02-21 05:34 am (UTC)(link)
I FAIL at LJ lately. FAIL. (in my defense for the last week at least, I've been sick).

"Aliens in a Space Ship" makes me positively meeble! The "conclusion" with "The Hero in the Hold" was so perfect. And the soldier! (Made me think of Lt. Col. Sheppard there ;)
