.art: Every bended knee (Castiel; Dean)

I've been listening to Iron & Wine's The Shepherd's Dog a lot lately, and I really love the album's opening track, "Pagan Angel and a Borrowed Car." Sometimes earworms manifest themselves in art... I'm waiting for the day "All the Single Ladies" ends up controlling a piece of McKay/Sheppard. It's inevitable. Originally the piece was going to be completely different, but the typography came out of nowhere. Now there are a couple pieces, one with just the typography and a couple of wallpapers yay! Walls are one of those things where, if you're doing large art, you might as well make a wallpaper while you're at it.







This is the original piece, with just Castiel. The brushwork is actually three different text brushes that correspond to parts of the lyric, "my love is one / made to break / every bended knee." The font is Baskerville Old Face.

And oh hai, wallpaper! There are a few versions, one with Castiel and one with Castiel and Dean.

Hee, just a little bit of it is original! I had to rely on a screencap from 4.07 (it's the park scene, best ever!!) because I didn't want to destroy the prettiness that is Misha's face. It's all digital, though; the textures were meant to simulate a piece of good, heavy drawing paper, and the text brushes sometimes mimic a thick, scribbly pencil line.

(The screencap that's left, which is mostly Misha's profile, is really heavily manipulated--desaturated, screened several times, and then had the levels messed with to get that pencilly effect.)

Heee, I was just thinking I should do some kind of typography with him :D :D I totally love Dean--I used to be a Sam girl, but now I find I am gravitating more toward Dean these days--but I think the problem I have doing art with him is that he's much... darker and heavier (if that makes sense) than my usual style can handle :D :D

(Oh oh and yayyyy, Smilla is so awesome!)

Although, come to think of it, there's always black and white, and I do like that. Hmmm... now you've got me thinking :D

This thing about being a Sam!girl or a Dean!girl is interesting,yeah...OBVIOUSLY we all have our fav chracters but with Spn is different!I mean,I'm a Dean!girl so I shouldn't talk but he is such a great multi-layered character,full of shades...full of lights and shadows...it's like you're "sucked" in him,you're forced to like him in some way!If this makes sense to you!:P My english sometimes is very creative!LOL
And I know exactly what you mean when you say "darker and heavier",I make graphics with him 'cause he gives me so much!He is visually dark and heavy...but he is soul-related dark and heavy,if you start playing with him you can only enjoy the process,believe me!;D

I think I started turning at the end of S2 and throughout S3. Over my spring vacation I rewatched all of S3 straight through and Dean... oh, Dean broke my heart by the end. And he continues to break it :D He's one of those characters who manages to be complex and simple at the same time... There's a sense that, underneath all the layers there's a certain bedrock, simple thing that defines him, and it's really not what you'd expect.
