Now, the real purpose of this post: OTTERS!

In other news: I got some pretty good and exciting news today about a project I've been working on (it could be a book! There might be something for me to do after my dissertation!), and it was so awesome and exciting I decided to do very little for the rest of the day.

Also now I've gone and made a Sweet Charity bid, hmph. ;)
What is this news, hm?

And the news is, well, it's more conceptually good news :D I just finished working on a project that I thought would be a one-paper deal, but there's actually quite a bit more that needs to be said, and hasn't been said, on the subject, and the advisor suggested it would be a good book project :D

Also a book?

And yes, maybe a book! After years and years of work and finishing my dissertation and ten thousand other things :D :D But the thing I thought was going to be a one-off ended up having a lot more that needed to be done with it. It's always nice, making more work for myself :D

Dammit, Misha, stop saying things like this. The next time I have to say refer to the text in a conference or classroom setting, I am going to totally giggle inappropriately and make an ass out of myself.
*hands*
(And TURTLES OH MY GOD.)

Argh. OTTERS! So cute.

Congratulations to you about the book! That is very exciting. *Very*
I thought about offering something handmade as well as writing. I only got to the latter, which might be good... I have a stack of baby blankets to knit!

Congratulations to you about the book! That is very exciting.
Thank you!! Sadly, the congratulations will not be due for a while yet... It still needs to be written :D But the fact that there is a project. I mean, I had an idea! That no one else has thought of! The ideas are the hardest part of research and writing; the next hardest part is realizing that the totally awesome idea you just had has, in fact, been thoroughly studied by someone else. Close behind is the spine-knotting tension of praying that the totally awesome idea you just had hasn't been thoroughly studied by someone else.
(Fortunately, so far, I am in the clear. Now people just need to keep their grubby hands off it for the next several years.)
And ohhhhh baby blankets!!! Are any of them for sale, perchance, or are they all spoken for? A friend of mine is having a baby girl in July and I just realized I should probably find something adorable for her.

Yez. And if you were to put your pointer finger on his forehead to help keep just out of reach of the ninja skillz... he'd totally bite ya.
I shall keep my fingers crossed for you! You shall have friends circled around you to hold your hand and talk you through, and cheerlead, and I am sure that you will find totally awesome things with your totally awesome idea that have not been thoroughly studied yet. You will!
I have to get two of the blankets done for soon-to-be born babies, but the others I have planned are for already born babes, so if you're interested, a blanket knitting could be arranged. We'll talk :)

The otter on the right, let's call him Rodney, would like to remind you that he is related to skunks and if you get too close he can stink on you. What? No, he can't squirt like a skunk....and he doesn't want to, either. Where's the fun in that? He wants to apply it himself by grabbing you with his
cutedeadly claws and gnawing your knuckles with hissharpactually pretty sharp teeth. So, BEWARE!!! He is cute-ing merely to lull you.His icon friends? Have spurs.

And awwwwwwww!!! baby otters! Seriously, this made my day. There's nothing like looking at an adorably grumpy little otter when you're miserable at work. I'm now convinced that this is Ronon, John and Rodney after they failed to listen to Teyla and touched something/insulted the otter high priest. John is indulging is physical contact and Rodney is making his displeasure known. Teyla is explaining to Woolsey that it's temporary while trying to look innocent. ...in my defense, I was really miserable at work.
