EIGHT DAYS OF HAPPY! | prev. days: 01 | 02 | 03 | 04 | 05 | 06

"Happiness": Day Seven
Today was not a good day for a lot of reasons, but at least it was nice out?

It's just a bit too chilly out for gardening properly in tank top, shorts, and sandals, but it was nice having a chance to get out in the sun for a few moments and be able to take my sweater off. Pretty much anywhere between 55-75, dry, and sunny is my paradise.

I just got back from an almost seven-hour odyssey to Chicago and I feel like shit, so I'm going to bed. Will v. likely hold onto Happy Day Eight until I dislike myself a little less.

.eta because shit shit shit I thought this posted earlier: Amazon rank < click here to further inform Amazon of their asshattery. [livejournal.com profile] fiercelydreamed and others have links to other posts on the Amazon ranking fiasco; Jezebel has some posts here (with OMG GIRLKISSING MY EYYYYYYYES WHY WON'T SOMEONE THINK OF THE CHILDREN???) and here (with a running list of the GHEY BOOKS THAT ARE TOTES TRYING TO CONVERT TEH CHILDRENNNNNN that have been stripped of their rankings).

(God, I suck at this whole going to bed thing.)

I read through the post, and I'm in agreement with the commenters who point out that flagging books as adult and pulling them has been going on much longer than this weekend. (Some of the comments I have seen mentioned elsewhere, on Jez and SBTB.) Also, automatically stripping "adult" books (and what the hell does that even mean? Based on the lists of what's permissible [Dr. Brett Tate "Sexologist"'s Professional Bachelor (How to Exploit Her Inner Psycho)] and what isn't [Brokeback Mountain] I don't think Amazon has a clue) of rank based on morality not popularity, as a commenter said, is deeply, deeply problematic to me.

At best, I'm willing to go with incompetent Amazon communication + trolls. But Amazon really needs to take a lesson from every other Bantown-type incident and institute a policy for dealing with this sort of thing. Like, for example, enabling safesearch. And also, not immediately or by default dropping/rank-stripping anything people freak out about.

Totally agree with everything you said. I just think this needs to be handled in a thoughtful and deliberate way, not in a reactionary one. If it is a troll and Amazon didn't foresee this kind of problem then they're ignorant. But I want this corrected so that trolls can't use these tactics in the future. And that needs to be done with cool heads.
