Happiness? Plz?

On the Trinity is depriving me of the will to live. As depressing is my imminent return to Heidegger, whom I abandoned because I couldn't take him anymore but need to start reading again. I'm not a philosopher or theologian, but I have to pretend I'm one for a while, and I don't think it's going well.

So. Tell me something that makes you happy. Tell me a story. Show me a picture. Anything to keep me from harming myself or the library book, or fleeing to the Northwest Territory.

Something that makes me happy: my dog grinning at me and thumping his tail when he happens to look up as I look down. My Moleskine commonplace book, which is stuffed full of quotations and randomness.

Also, all being well, [livejournal.com profile] sgabigbang goes live tomorrow, :>

It makes me happy that you call it a commonplace book! :)

Moleskins are inherently happy! Thanks to you, I went out and bought some and how have I survived without them?!?

And of course, happiness is always a cute puppy.

Because I love dogs, too, here are two pics of my favourite dog - sadly, not mine, one of my friend's. But adorable all the same.
here (http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c208/sleepwalkerfish/dini2.jpg?t=1186512465) and here (http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c208/sleepwalkerfish/dini1.jpg?t=1186512528)

Also, something that selfishly makes ME happy, but I'll show you anyway, because it's my first texture (http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c208/sleepwalkerfish/greenPS.png?t=1186512599) and I wouldn't have ever made it without your inspiration. :-)

Also, I could paste lotsa JF and DH pics here to make you happy, but I'm convinced someone will, eventually. :-D

Mainlining SGA while eating reheated (in the oven! must be in the oven for optimum crispiness!) Pizza Hut Pan Pizza (pepperoni only, please) makes me happy. Soooooo happy. Alternates: Chef Boyardee Ravioli and West Wing.

Also, I don't have a lot of LJ readers, so pretty much anytime anyone comments on an entry. Ever. :)

... hmm... I managed to draw you *3* pages for the SGABB? (Well, it makes me happy! I feel accomplished! And it's been hell waiting for a week to show you and everybody!)

Now a story (that happened to me yesterday): I went to the bank with my mother to open an account for her and when we got the chance to talk to the nice lady, we realized the money we were going to deposit was not in the folder I gave my mum... My mom was all like "You didn't put it there!" and I'm all like "Did too!" So I decide to go back to the car(parked outside on the street) and check if maybe it fell out...

... and it had! It was on the ground beside the car! Making a beautiful money!carpet! And as I bent down to pick the 20 or so bills up, suddenly there came *wind* and I had to trow myself to the ground (scraping my knee in the process) in order to not spend the afternoon chasing flying bills down the street.

Luckily I recovered *all* of the money! So that makes me happy.

Surprisingly, I'm not surprised something like this happened... stuff like this is common around my mother.

Something that makes me happy...

Listening to Brendan Benson when I haven't heard his music for a while. It sounds so sweet to my ears.

Settling down with a hot cup of tea in my stolen Starbucks mug and watching something really mindless on TV like 'Will and Grace' or 'Friends'.

Zap lollies! Whatever happened to those? I dreamt about them recently and they need reviving LIEK WOAH.

*Hugs* Power through it! It can't last forever ;)

Having to go this weekend to a family reunion with the side of the family that worships the Holy Trinity of Regan, Elvis and Charlton Heston, I found a marvelous place. On NYS route 65, roughly a mile and a half out of Potsdam, New York (the real Upstate)is Scoopachinos - an elegant old house that is a restaurant, coffee bar, ice cream parlour and cyber cafe.

The Cyber Cafe was the only aspect we did not use. Good coffee; my sister found her mocha cappuccino too sweet, but that's Joyce. Excellent sandwiches, yummy sour dough pancakes and monstrous salads. They make their own sorbet and gellato - according to Marirose, our gellato snob, it's very close to the Italian gellato. I loved the Almond Joy variety.

Hope you like these, to me they're everything that makes me happy, my kids, friends, ponies, dogs and being outside in the beautiful weather. These were taken this weekend and they're probably not at all exciting to watch really, but it's such a lovely way to spend your afternoon and I think we're all terribly blessed to be able to do this whenever we want. I'm riding the black and white pony which a friend lends me at weekends and who I adore, my elder daughter is on the pretty chestnut pony who is ours and my younger daughter is on the grey pony who we look after with our boy. She's only just started riding out in the open so this is all very brave for her. The only thing missing is my other half, but he was working.

They're the best invention since papyrus, for serious! I had to get another one while I was at my parents' earlier this summer, and drove 45 minutes to the nearest Borders to get one. (There are closer bookstores, but none of them had it.)

happiness is always a cute puppy.

OH MY GOD SO CUTE!!! *squishes him*

Black dog club! The first picture looks a lot like my dog, and the second, so funny! He looks very suspicious of what's waiting for him at the bottom of those stairs.

it's my first texture

Awesome! I love the subtle fabric-like texture (those tiny lines), how subtle it is but still gives the piece a nice feel. I've never been happy with the green stuff I've done (so I don't do much), but this looks great!

Mind if I take it? You'll be credited, of course :)

My niece, especially in the picture that my icon is made of, makes me very happy.

I discovered [livejournal.com profile] icanhazstargate today and these (http://slian-martreb.livejournal.com/163226.html?mode=reply) in particular made me laugh A LOT.

I spent the day with my camper* today and will be going to the Met game on Thursday with her, with free tickets.

*I spend summers volunteering in a camp for sick kids. This is the first year I'm being a counselor (one-on-one) and camp starts next week and will last for two weeks. The tickets were provided by the camp's mother organization.

Eee! I love those! For some reason, the "I see what you did there" one kills me, I think because I can hear Sheppard actually saying that.

And have fun at the baseball game :)

Well, I *am* a philosopher, and the idea of reading Heidegger depresses me, too!

Yay! I was proud of myself for actually understanding about two sentences of the Being and Time excerpts I had to read for a class last year. Heidegger has the odd quality of fooling you into thinking you know what he's talking about, until there's this moment when you suddenly think, "Wait. WTF is he saying??? This makes no sense."

But mafia!Joe makes it all better.

*puts on a flapper dress and offers him a cigar*

[identity profile] aesc.livejournal.com 2007-08-08 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
Thank God I don't have to read either Kant or Hegel. Heidegger is bad enough... Unfortunately, I have to know at least an iota of phenomenologies of the mind and self and his work forms the basis of a lot of the later critics I've been reading >.<

But forget him!

WOMBAT!!!!!

Aren't they adorable? They're so goofy and fat.

It's been six years since I last got on a horse, but at least ten when I stopped riding actively. Watching you, your daughter, and your horse brought back some of the best memories of my childhood, out gallivanting about on one horse or another and having so much fun.

Yay! Best. Ever. My reward for passing my exams (please God, please God) will be a week of mindless staring at all the TV I will have missed. It will probably consist of whole marathons of stuff, and me sitting on the couch with gradually-accumulating mugs of tea and chocolate wrappers.

1. My thesis went to the bindery today. That's the very last step in the process; I'm not a student anymore. I'm excited about that. I have at least a year that I can play with ideas and words my way, without having to answer to the academy, and I'm hoping that will help me grow into a better scholar.
2. I'm starting with psychogeography, and Slings & Arrows fanfiction.
3. I have a colleague who is obsessed with On the Trinity. In mannerisms, she's a bit of a (ditz) stereotype (though she isn't actually ditzy at all), and she told me, once, all about how On the Trinity "is, like, soooooooooooooooooooooo relevant." I still giggle, thinking about it.
4. Sailboats.
5. What is it about moleskines that makes them better than other sorts of notebook? I'm genuinely curious about this. I always carry a pocket-sized notebook from IKEA with me, which is similarly stuffed with quotations, ideas, and other randomness.
6. My best friend and I were planning on attending convocation wearing t-shirts that said, "And I never read Heidegger" on them, but we'll both be out of the country.
7. Podfic.
... that's all I have for now, though, because I have to pack and clean, because 8. tomorrow, I get on a bus, and then a plane, and then I will be back in my hometown, however, briefly.

It's been ages since I've seen The Office... Must make time to start doing that again. It was one of the rituals my old roommate and I had, but I haven't watched it since we parted ways, back in the first season. *nostalgic sigh*

[identity profile] aesc.livejournal.com 2007-08-08 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
I know! I'm ridiculously excited.

I think I'm going to have to parcel the stories out over several days, otherwise I'm going to have to ask my professors if I could make McKay/Sheppard my major exam field :)

[identity profile] aesc.livejournal.com 2007-08-08 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
That's the very last step in the process; I'm not a student anymore.

Hurray! Congratulations! I remember when I dropped my MA thesis off and the graduate college accepted it, that was when I was done. And the absence of weight, oh my God, it was wonderful.

I'm starting with psychogeography,

This sounds terribly interesting, actually. Can you briefly explain the premise? Or is it one of those things that defies brevity (or a premise)?

all about how On the Trinity "is, like, soooooooooooooooooooooo relevant." I still giggle, thinking about it.

It is depressingly relevant, if only because a lot of it prefigures Cartesian arguments on the mind and its relationship to the world, and some of it (particularly some of the Neoplatonism) remind me, distantly, of phenomenological accounts of being.

What is it about moleskines that makes them better than other sorts of notebook? I'm genuinely curious about this.

I honestly have no idea. I picked up a Moleskine one day because my dad had inadvertently placed my old journal in the "Random Stuff My Daughter Doesn't Need and So Shall Be Purged" pile when I moved out, so I needed a new one. And I haven't been able to write in anything else since. Some of the things I like are the way the cover feels, the line spacing (I have very tiny handwriting), and the off-white color of the paper, which I find very soothing for some reason.

7. Podfic.

Indeed!

8. tomorrow, I get on a bus, and then a plane, and then I will be back in my hometown, however, briefly.

Yay for home! That's always a wonderful thing.
