Well, perhaps subtle as a bag of hammers instead of a bag of bricks, at least in some ways... One of the things I deeply, deeply hate is the "girl, you can be whatever you want! Just make sure you have a boyfriend/get married eventually" message. I got that a lot in school, and it still irks me, especially when it comes around to the sly wink and "So, aesc, you're working on your dissertation and doing what you love, but... is there a BOY in your life?"
