*le sigh*
I'm in kind of a weird place right now. Despite having a pretty sane second half of the semester, I've been mortally exhausted all the time; the hormone levels are not right, according to my doctor, and so it's the endocrinologist's for me after Christmas break. Like so much this year, it's good news mixed with the stupid/lame/not good: I'm 99% sure the depression has not returned--it doesn't have the same feel (I'm just chronically so fucking tired)--but that means it's Something Else instead. Lovely. Also,
sga_santa is kicking my ass. One day to go and the Writer Demon is poking at me, going, This is weird, it's too crack-like, the person will be publicly "yay!" and privately "seriously, what the hell is this shit?" You might as well start over, and my brain is paralyzed.
On the bright side,
tardis80 has been posting the most adorable things lately. NARWHALS. Mer!Rodney! BOYS! Also,
countess7 has recorded podfics of
apple_pi's Thursday porn and my followup to it, and you can listen to filthy dirty boys here.
And Finn has been climbing in bed with me lately, because thick-coated Canadian dogs can never be cuddled enough. He curls up against my legs, uncomplicated and warm and smelling of fur, and sleeps.
If there is anything happy to say or cute to show, I would love to see it ♥ I will start:

Also if you know Merlin at all I've no end of lovely fic I could rec you.
Alas, I'll have to pass ;) I watched the first couple of episodes, and while I liked it, I wasn't powerfully intrigued... But I study a lot of this in my Real Life, Such As It Is, so Merlin is probably a bit too close to work for me to make it my recreation :D Thank you, though!

And I realized a bit too late that I should not have said "study" in my above comment, it should have been "teach." I'm not an Arthurianist, but I do teach Arthurian stories to undergrads because the tradition is so pervasive--and even though it's not my cup of tea (I'm one of those people who is not really nuts about Arthuriana; I never really got into it, the stories and characters really don't intrigue me the way others do), Arthurian tales are, on the whole, a good way to introduce students to older literature that would, under most circumstances, make them want to put their eyes out.
Though the gist of it is silly, and potentially grating in its' inaccuracy
To be fair, the stories included in the Arthurian tradition are so disparate and contradictory that you can't fault modern-day writers for inaccuracies; you can just fault them for writing something lame, like First Knight or Sword of the Valiant (OMG SO HORRIBLE). When it comes down to it, medieval writers of Arthurian romance did pretty much the same thing that I imagine the Merlin writers are doing: they wrote about early medieval British/Celtic heroes wearing contemporary (read: later medieval) armor, participating in contemporary rituals and practices, and wearing contemporary clothes. Plenty of anachronism and inaccuracy in the tradition already :D
