.fic/art links: "Faith Healing" (John/Rodney PG13); Arbor (Teyla PG13)

It just occurred to me that one of the things on my Backlog of Stuff is linking to things what I wrote and arted over the past two months. So, here they are:

[fic] Faith Healing (John/Rodney PG13) ~11,800 words
An AU for [livejournal.com profile] temaris's [livejournal.com profile] sga_santa present! I completely blanked on a halfway decent title for it, which was idiotic, because the story had two sources I knew (Moby's remix of "Run On" and The Band's "WS Walcott Medicine Show") and one which I had completely forgotten until I saw it the other day (Supernatural ep "Faith," which features faith healing in a muddy field in southern Nebraska.)

Anyway, the story gave me hell but it's posted and here it is, with safe planets and Asgard and the Trust and Rodney's horrible, horrible roadtrip with Lorne, and, of course, John: Faith Healing.

[art] Arbor (Teyla, gen PG13)
Art done for [livejournal.com profile] siriaeve's Teyla!fic as part of [livejournal.com profile] artword's Astronomy challenge. She does write an awesome Teyla, you guys, srsly. There's team, too, but a lot of team through her eyes: Arbor.

The art is a cover, and sort of an experiment in how to do coloring with brushes and not have a decent drawing tablet. I desaturated the image of Teyla and recolored it in places using splotchy brushes of various persuasions... It took a bit, but it came out okay, I think.

Just putting a note here to say, it's really interesting. I had NO idea it was you who wrote Faith Healing, yet I resonated with it and thought it was awesome and haunting and cool and super well written (as did many others, obviously). It never occurred to me that it was you, because I guess it seemed different than what you normally write, I don't know? Anyway, it's always kind of nice to have proof that one's tastes are consistent, I guess -- I seem to always love your writing, regardless of whether I know it's you or not.:) Faith Healing John really stuck in my head, and kind of haunted me, in the good way.

It was definitely very different writing it! It was something that I've never really done before, which was try to flesh out an AU in one fairly small space; everything else AU that I've done (like Restoration or Nantucket) works itself out in multiple stories, so I can be slouchy and take my time with adding in details here and there. So "Faith Healing" felt very compressed and quick-moving to me... Also, there was action and shooting and stuff, which I never feel I'm very good at and always seems alien to me :D :D
