[drabble] Hope in Exile [G]
Title: Hope in Exile
By: HF
Characters: Elrond, Gandalf, smattering of Aragorn
Universe: Pre-FotR (book)
Rating/Warnings: Not much.
Disclaimer: The genius is Tolkien's.
Notes: Inspired by a similar phrase in Alvin Lee's classic examination of Old English poetics, The Guesthouse of Eden. This is not the fic,
mrkinch. (I hope!) I can't concentrate on anything longer at the moment, though :/
To be locked in a few days.
HOPE IN EXILE
Spring had come to Imladris, birdsong and flowers, but Elrond Peredhel felt the warmth and gladness of the season fade into cold and fear.
“The Council has been led astray,” Gandalf said. “Indeed, I know it, though how, I cannot say.”
“Saruman will not suffer challenge.”
“Suffer it he must!” Gandalf cried. “I tell you, Master Elrond, the Shadow waits; not long shall it be before it rends the world. And I fear that if we tarry from the search any longer, hope shall fade altogether.”
“Hope wanders now in exile,” Elrond said bitterly, turning away.
“Then we must call him home.”

Thanks, Edrys! I've never really written Gandalf, and was definitely relying a bit on Ian McKellen :)
Wes þu hal!
