.eta: if you look at the bucket of golf balls, you can see that it's labeled PROPERTY OF DAEDALUS, DO NOT REMOVE. On one hand, it's pretty funny that someone (i.e. John) saw it and filched it because it would be awesome for holding golf balls; on the other hand, it's funny because... I mean... super-advanced spaceship and they have silly metal buckets on board so critical to ship operations that they must not be taken.

Also, when not being distracted by that tempting slice of Shep's belly, I've always wondered about that bucket...while stunningly perfect for holding golf balls in, what the hell were they using it to hold on board the Daedalus? Fire-retardant sand? And I've also always wondered how John's going to get his golf balls back. Are those are the floaty kind? If so, how badly do the Marines have to screw up in order to get put on golf ball retreival duty?

Those buckets are placed in strategically important locations in case there's a hull breach and no space suits are left. The Daedalus bucket screams Douglas Adams to me. Like, they have oodles of technology at their disposal, but in the heat of the moment, what they really rely on is the mundane. Somewhere on that ship there are similarly labeled towels; John's probably ripped off a couple of them, too, because he's a cleptomaniac. Sticky Fingers Sheppard, that's our boy.

I love that John Sheppard's approach to golf is pretty much to take a sport which is entirely about the balance of strength and skill and turn it into an exercise in hitting something really, really hard just to watch it go. (And when that fails, to turn it into an exercise in pushing Rodney's a button.) *squishes him*
