.Nevermind (John/Rodney PG) ~1,500 + art
I was lucky enough to write for the very awesome and talented [livejournal.com profile] newkidfan for this month's Reversed challenge at [livejournal.com profile] artword, and believe me when I tell you her art will blow you away. And thank you thank you to [livejournal.com profile] dogeared for making sure the writing is not entirely nonsensical *smooch* (And for those of you who are interested in [livejournal.com profile] artword but didn't have a chance/weren't able to participate last month, the new challenge starts soon! Look for it!)

Because the piece is very image-heavy, the link takes you to a preload page ♥

The last time he lost someone behind enemy lines, John had a single helicopter to get him back. This time he has a warship.

.eta: For a few billion reasons (pollen, allergies to said pollen, having to work in the garden anyway otherwise we will be growing prize weeds), I'm having a terrible, "wow do I feel like shit in more ways than one" morning. And I haven't read it yet because I want to wait for the Zyrtec to work (oh please dear god work), but I know THIS is going to be awesome and will help me feel better. It is [livejournal.com profile] beeej's Bar Harbour AU, and I have been praying for [livejournal.com profile] wojelah or someone to write it because OMG OMG OMG IT MAKES ME JOYFUL.

Between a boiling-lobster shower, Zyrtec, a lot of coffee, and several other contributing factors, my day has improved by, oh, a billion times. Also, the new [livejournal.com profile] artword "typography" challenge is starting up here! TYPOGRAPHY, peoples! *considers*

Yesterday, [livejournal.com profile] darsynia asked me if I could make a larger version of Lie Beside the Sea art for her widescreen, and since I didn't have any way to add on 200px of right margin that would look exactly the same as the rest of the piece, all I did was widen the canvas so you can see some of the structure under the surface textures. I think it's actually quite interesting, sort of a cutaway view of the scraps that end up trimmed off in the final version.

That got me thinking of behind-the-scenes things, and coffee has enabled me to do stupid things with more energy, so I took a picture of a page in my Moleskine, which is the holder of all things [livejournal.com profile] aesc; the page is notes for a current fic-in-progress, and a couple other things. I have to admit, I love behind-the-scenes features on DVDs and DVD commentaries on fic... I love seeing how other people think, and how they experience what they're making. Also, I love it when people post pictures of their handwriting :">

behind the scenes! )

Behind the scenes for Nevermind: I usually listen to instrumental music when I write, because lyrics can distract me, but sometimes I have a set of songs I listen to over and over while I write, and the fic for "Nevermind" only came together when I started listening to Alexi Murdoch's "Orange Sky," Dave Matthews's "Some Devil," and Grant Lee Buffalo's "Happiness" on constant repeat. I think they're awesome songs (with McKaysian and Sheppardian overtones), and you should listen to them.

For the record, after a week of not feeling terribly good about myself or the world in general, I'm determined to be happy for the rest of the day. HAPPY, DAMMIT. And to prove it, I'm using my sunny day in Palermo icon.
